Hi to all you great financial aid folks.

I am the director of financial aid at NNU.  From a professional standpoint I am really quite new to financial aid as I have been in it only two years.  My background is in accounting, having worked as a CPA in public accounting and as a financial accountant generally in the non-profit sector.  I taught accounting here at NNU first as an adjunct for several years and then as a full time faculty member for 6 years.  I left and became the CFO for the Boise Rescue Mission but wasn't really feeling challenged in that position.  One day driving home I was praying about my job situation and when I walked in the door my husband said NNU wanted to talk to me about becoming the financial aid director.  The rest of the story is that I feel like I was hired into the best position in the world.  God is good! My lack of financial aid knowledge is far outweighed by the amazing group of people that I work with and their many years of experience in the field - like Dwight Berreth's 26 years in financial aid and Wes Maggard's 30 plus!  I love this job because we get to give out the money - how great is that.  We also just purchased a ping pong table for our office and are now hosting cross campus tournaments, so fun is part of every day here.

On a personal note, I am old and have been married a long time.  My husband Pete is an NNU Professor.  We have 3 boys and 1 girl who range in age from 24-16.  I love hiking, camping, snow skiing, gardening and reading (though I don't feel like I have enough time for any of those things).  I also bike, run and try to get to our campus gym several times each week, not because I like it, but because I am not taking this getting old thing without a fight!

    Hey everybody!

I am relatively new to the financial aid community making the transition in 2014. In that time I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people from all across the state and country in the profession. It also gives me great pleasure to help students navigate the sometimes complex rules of financial aid.

I am 27 and my hobbies include home brewing, mountain biking and backpacking. My adventures this month will take me to the White Clouds and the Rapid River Trail south of Riggins. After talking to my eastern friends (Rod and James), I am very interested in visiting Mesa Falls on the eastern side of our state.

Look forward to seeing everybody at this years conference!

Hello everyone! I am a 25 year old Financial Aid Counselor at BYU-Idaho. I have been working in financial aid since 2013. I love helping the students and working in a strong team atmosphere.

I am originally from the East coast and have a deep love for the East! I enjoy spending time outdoors with friends, playing beach volleyball, and swimming. I am going to school part time while working. My degree will be in Exercise Physiology.

Hey all you IASFAA members and friends!

I am a married, father of 2 coming up on my 19th anniversary with my wife Traci.  Jackson and Ellissa are now 14 and 10 and we live near Boise with a black lab, a rabbit and a couple fish (that won't seem to stop living).  We love to spend time doing stuff as a family that usually involves the outdoors or supporting someone in their sporting endeavors.  Like Rod, this is the way I get exercise!

I was born and raised in southeast Idaho where I lived until spending the last 16 years in Boise.

I have spent about 26 years in financial aid in some capacity across three schools in southern Idaho.  I started as a student worker at Idaho State, moved to Boise State, and now the last two years at Northwest Nazarene.  I have enjoyed making friends and colleagues during my trek west across the state.  As such, it seems that may have earned me my second stint as your IASFAA President this year.  I look forward to seeing and hearing from more of you as we get connected and support each other through this great organization we call IASFAA!

    Hey everyone,

I'm 29, married with 3 kids and two dogs.

I'm a big sports fan. I follow football and ice hockey mostly. I enojoy tv shows and movies a lot. I also am trying to get back into a groove with lifting weights and exercising.

I've been in Financial Aid for almost 2 years on the verification and processing team at BYU-Idaho. I've enjoyed it so far and am happy to be attending the conference.

    Hi all!

I'm a 39 year-old father of two and I've been married to my lovely wife for 16 years.

I've been fortunate enough to spend the last 19 years as a financial aid counselor at LCSC. I attended LCSC and graduated with my BS in Business Administration. My wife also attended LCSC and now teaches at Lewiston High School--where we both attended and where we met. Yes, we're high school sweethearts.

Our kids are active in karate, swim team, and Cub Scouts. They keep us running from dawn till dusk.

In our free time we love spending time in the great outdoors and enjoy all the activities that Idaho has to offer. Most every weekend sees us riding ATVs, dirt bikes or snowmobiles (depending on the season.) I am also an avid beer drinker.

I've been with IASFAA since I became financial aid professional and have made many financial aid friends throughout the years. I look forward to many more years of meeting new friends within IASFAA. See you in October!

    Hello fellow IASFAA members!

I have been married for 8 years. My wife and I have 3 children (Audrey is 7, Joseph is 4, and Jack is 2).

My interests and hobbies are revolved around family and sports. I try to mix the two as much as possible, but my kids are young and so they are just now getting into sports. My favorite sports are football, golf, and basketball. I don't play football anymore, but I still find enjoyment in watching and coaching football. I play golf on a regular basis, but my scores do not prove it (I'm not good). I like to play basketball on a regular basis as well. Sports is the one way I get any exercise at all. I just can't bring myself to "go for a run"

I love to coach youth sports and this year I am coaching my daughter's soccer team for the second time. My son, Joseph, is my "assistant coach." It is always a lot of fun to be able to go to practice as a family. I am also volunteering to coach a youth football team this year. This will be my 6th year coaching football.

Fun facts: I am certified as an Advanced PADI SCUBA diver. I love NASCAR. I took dance classes as a kid and then again in high school.

It will be great getting to know others through this forum!

    Thanks, Rod

    Hello IASFAA Members,

In an effort to better serve you and to more fully use the website functionality we have available to us, we are starting a forum. This forum is intended to help our membership get to know each other and network. Feel free to post pictures of family, share interests and hobbies, or fun facts about yourself. This forum should be extremely useful building up to the conference in learning more about our members before we join together. Keep in mind that you initial posting in all forums will make you automatically eligible for a $20 scholarship to the 2016 Fall conference. Read more in the Scholarship Rules.
